Playing some PUBG with the gang
It’s been a while since I’ve played some PUBG with the full c’t Pr0ne gang1, but tonight we got the band back together to play some games. Not that we did that well… We made it to 4th three times, but I didn’t get a single kill in any of the games. I was mostly just spraying covering fire, trying to stay alive. We had a lot of fun though. The best scene of the night involved Fischer capsizing my buggy with his bike (don’t trust that man around a motorcycle) and then trying to right it again by running into it repeatedly.

The second round of the GNR Warhammer challenge has begun
On GNR 57 Dave, Mike and me decided that we would do a second round of our Warhammer 40,000 painting challenge Vier Feldherren. After Dave won the first one by a huge margin, I won the turtle race by finishing a single cultist. I now sit on that one finished cultist plus an almost finished second one as well as two Chaos Space Marine Chosen from my Word Bearers in various stages of completion.

A video discussing the movie, and a game announcement
Having seen the new Tomb Raider movie, I was a guest on the heise show Spoiler Alert to discuss the flick with my colleagues André and Nico. It’s in German and it – obviously – includes spoilers. Speaking of raided tombs: Square Enix this week confirmed that a third game in the reboot series is set to launch in September. They will unveil more details about the game on 27 April.

Lara is back on the big screen!
I went and saw the new Tomb Raider movie on Monday to write my review for heise online which just went up. Keep in mind that I’ve been a Lara Croft fanboy since ‘96 and also hugely enjoyed Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I really enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, it’s a bit dumb and illogical in places, but it’s also a really good, old-fashioned action flick.

Not a Disaster

My talk at the Hannah Arendt Days went quite well
Well, my public speech at Heise went quite well. A lot of people turned up and I had quite a few questions to answer afterwards. Most people seemed really happy with it. I even got a few inquiries from companies to give talks for them in the future. All in all, I’m really happy with how it turned out. The talk was filmed and I’m being told we’re putting up the video soon.

I'm giving a big speech tomorrow, I hope I am ready
Tomorrow, I’m giving a talk at the Heise HQ as part of the interactive exhibition Geheimnis1, which is put on by the City of Hanover. The exhibition is part of the prestigious Hannah Arendt Days, a yearly academic event that examines current political or sociological trends. It is named after the historian and political theorist Hannah Arendt. This year, it is all about secrets and how computers and the internet change what secrets mean for modern societies.

Yet another musical discovery
Someone on Google+ linked me to the Swedish metal band Raubtier when I posted about Sabaton. If you know me, you know that I am quite picky when it comes to metal. It’s very hard for other bands to compete with Joakim’s voice. I was skeptical at first. But these guys are quite good. I have no fucking clue what they are singing about, though. I can make out the word “Panzer” here or there, but that’s about it.

I've been slacking lately, but here's a podcast
It’s been ages since Dave, Mike and me did episode 57 of Geek News Radio (we recorded on 27 February, to be precise) and I’ve finally gotten around to release it. Sorry for the delay, I’ve been massively busy at work lately. In this episode, we talk about Divinity: Original Sin II, Warhammer 40K and personal planners. We also used a VoIP service called Studio Link to record the show – it should noticeably improve our audio quality.

Played Subnautica all morning, such a good game
I’ve been playing Subnautica all morning. It’s such a good game, especially if you’re working through the weekend and badly need some time to relax. I’m just not in a mood for stories in games right now – I’ve been writing so much, I don’t have the mental capacity to process them at the moment. What I need is a beautiful game where you can just dawdle around for a while.

Use Mapbox to create wonderful wallpaper images from maps
I’ve had a free Mapbox account for years now to play around with digital cartography. But recently, I’ve discovered a really good everyday use for it. They wrote this cool blog post about using their API playground to create wallpaper images. They have some really amazing map styles to choose from and you can pick any place on the planet at a zoom level of your choice. Here’s my home, the north of Hamburg, rendered Linux-terminal style:
