As you might have noticed, there hasn’t been anything going on here in a while. Basically: I’ve been really busy. I’ve been live on Germany’s second most-watched news show talking about the Facebook / Cambridge Analytica scandal and gave a talk about infosec in front of a number of C-level executives of the biggest companies of Hanover and the surrounding area, including leading people from the interior ministry and Verfassungsschutz of the State of Lower Saxony.
For episode 58 of Geek News Radio we got Mike on board again and he brought up the topic of Cambridge Analytica for Dave and me to discuss. We had a really good exchange on that topic and also on the recent Uber accident. It was quite a news heavy show, uncharacteristically so for Geek News Radio.
We also have some Dinner For One talk and a Vier Feldherren update. The show’s just been released, go have a listen!
Some thoughts on Brian Acton saying people should get off Facebook
The other day, I had an interesting Twitter discussion with my friend Char. In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, WhatsApp founder Brian Acton had jumped on the #DeleteFacebook bandwagon. To my eyes, this was an extremely hypocritical move. The man reportedly made billions from selling his app to Facebook. To now suddenly tell people, from a position of extreme wealth, to never use their services again is something that you just don’t do.
